Press & Public Affairs Unit plays a key role in providing the information needs of the residents, visitors and businesses of the City of Monrovia. The unit serves as the official source of information dissemination to the public on developments at the MCC. It coordinates with other departments internally including the Public Relations Office of the City Police to update the citizens of Monrovia on activities unfolding within the City of Monrovia and the Monrovia City Corporation. The unit is responsible for mobilizing public participation in promoting MCC’s development agenda and creating a strong sense of ownership. The Unit houses two key sections:

Research, Records & Document and Media Relations 

The Unit is responsible for mobilizing public participation in promoting MCC’s development agenda and creating a strong sense of ownership. The Unit houses MCC’s resource center (Reading Room) where media practitioners and the public can access information relating to the Monrovia City Corporation or the Mayor. It is responsible to provide feedback to departments and employees of MCC on the public’s perception of the impact of services/programs delivered or regulations imposed. It also supports the management of MCC through the development and implementation of administrative policies, guidelines and procedures on publicity and media relation.

Functions of the Unit

  1. To develop and implement administrative policies, guidelines and procedures on public relations;
  2. To develop and implement administrative policies, guidelines and procedures on research and documentation;
  3. To gather pertinent news worthy information from all departments, sections, units for dissemination to the news media
  4. Respond the major crime scenes/incidents/events that draw media attention and support the City Police public relation’s section in responding to crimes/law enforcement issues;
  5. Receives all public records requests from media outlets and coordinate the requests with the Mayor’s Office and the departments/units that are affected by the request.
  6. Responsible for setting up press conferences, news briefings, interviews, and any other gatherings where the City Mayor will address the news media, community groups or outside agencies;
  7. Conduct massive public education on MCC’s development agenda and developments with MCC and the City of Monrovia;
  8. Support Revenue Management Section during revenue mobilization and campaigns;
  9. Manage the Website of MCC through regular maintenance and updates;
  10. Take, maintain and preserve documentary evidences through timely video recording and photographs;
  11. Support the Guest Services Unit during tours of MCC’s facilities or City of Monrovia to ensure proper documentation and response to enquiries;
  12. Manage MCC’s marketing exhibits strategies to ensure massive media coverage and public information dissemination;
  13. Oversee protocol duties during times of media engagements with the Mayor;
